The MIGHTY Maridalen smashes the once mighty Svellet

Did I used to say “The Mighty” Svellet? If so then why?

Today on a day when it threatened to rain, but didn’t, I visited a once mighty Svellet which still has shallow water and mud banks but did not see one single!!! Årnestangen was better although hardly much and without a flock of 9 Temminck’s would have been a write off. Maridalen though? 15 Temminck’s was an Oslo record EVER and now two LRPs plus the usual tringas. Still no Greenshank for me but I predict that by the end of the month there will be a Mountain Marsh Runner and Maridalsvannet will cement its place as THE wader bonanza hotspot 😉

No pictures of birds but rather of habitats:

THE wader hotspot in Maridalen

and the once mighty Svellet. This picture was taken on 16 May but the water level of 4.66m is exactly the same as today. The long spit of mud can be seen and the water is very shallow but not a single wader using it today
